The British Institute at Ankara (BIAA) is currently accepting applications for the position of London Manager. This opportunity may be a good fit for a Cornucopia reader, as the ideal candidate would have some knowledge of Turkey and the academic disciplines within the remit of the Institute.
Founded in 1948, the BIAA supports, enables and encourages research in Turkey and the Black Sea region in a wide range of fields including archaeology, ancient and modern history, heritage management, social sciences and contemporary issues in public policy and political sciences. (John Garstang, an archaeologist and the subject of an ANAMED exhibition last year, was the driving force behind the creation of the Institute and its first director.) It has offices in Ankara and London, and a dedicated staff of experts from a wide variety of academic and cultural backgrounds.
The post encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to financial management, servicing the Institute’s Council and Committees, organising lectures, and administering research grants and publications. The London Manager will also help maintain BIAA’s website, database and social media accounts, in addition to being the point of contact for Institute members. It is also expected that the manager will visit the Ankara office annually.
